Undergraduate Lab Research
Undergraduates from various concentrations are encouraged to apply for independent study research projects. Engineering, computer science, applied math, physics and quantitatively/systems oriented Neuroscience students are best suited for the types of projects that are generally available.
Students should be prepared to:
- Spend at least three semesters (only one as a formal independent study course is required) as well as one summer engaged in a lab project.
- Be committed to the completion of a senior thesis project in your concentration.
- Have good to excellent mathematics and computer skills and a working knowledge of Matlab and/or C++. Applicants should have good knowledge of basic physics and biology as well. Systems neuroscience beyond BN001 is very helpful (especially BN160, 165, 168).
Current project areas include:
- Neural coding and computation
- Neural prostheses--Development of technology (with Professor Nurmikko's lab) and optimizing control signals (with Professor Black's lab)
- Motor control--Multielectrode recording and psychophysics
Financial support is ordinarily available for students during the summer. To apply, please contact Professor Donoghue.
